What is FINRA?
FINRA is short for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and is a not-for-profit entity that is not part of the government.
FINRA handles the licensing and regulation of broker-dealers and is responsible for overseeing virtuall all U.S. stockbrokers and brokerage firms.
FINRA is the largest self-regulatory organization (SRO) in the securities industry within the U.S.
What is the Short Interest Report?
FINRA requires firms to report short interest positions in all customer and proprietary accounts in all equity securities twice a month, which can be found here.
